The Province of Treviso holds places full of charme, little beauties, which recall past time memories.
We would like to recommend some villages, which are expressions of our cultural heritage. These places are famous for wine and gastronomic specialties.
FOLLINA: this village hosts the Cistercian-Abbey of Santa Maria, whose building was erected during 1300. This Abbey fuses together the Romanesque and Gothic Styles, and it is still inhabited by “I Servi di Maria” (the Servants of Virgin Mary). The three naves church enclosed, among the numerous artworks, a statue of Virgin Maria, which is nowadays object of pilgrimage tourism. The most important rooms of the Abbey overlook the nearby cloister. Here must be noticed that the small columns and the capitals are all different the one from the others and that they are all perfectly preserved.
CISON DI VALMARINO: is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and the scenery of numerous events during the year. Besides the historical center, where are located the ancient municipal hall, the church and other important buildings, there is the village dominated by Castelbrando fortress, that has a Medieval origin and became the exclusive residence of the Counts Brandolini, who lived there until the end of 1900. The building is today the location of an important hotel and Spa, where we can find also restaurants, a museum and a theatre.
VITTORIO VENETO was born with the fusion of two ancient towns: Ceneda and Serravalle. The cathedral of Ceneda is the headquarter of the diocese of Vittorio Veneto and the episcopal seminary. The city is dominated by the San Martino Castle, the ancient residence of the count-bishops. In this building is based the “Museo della Battaglia” (Battle Museum) with the First World War relics of the battle of Vittorio Veneto.
SERRAVALLE: you must pass through it, if you come from the North. For this reason it was a very rich and prosperous Village, guided by the powerful family Da Camino. The “Castrum”, the old castle, dominates the village, which is rich of Renaissance religious buildings, Piazza Flaminio and the Da Ponte theatre. Vittorio Veneto offers to the visitors different opportunities from the museums to walks into the nature.
SAN PIETRO DI FELETTO: “La Pieve” is a Longobardic building, that is characterized by a colonnade with beautiful frescos, where is possible to have a view over the amazing hills. The interior of the building is really minimal and hosts the baptismal font, that is surrounded by a chapel completely covered by frescos. The walls of the central nave are covered by frescos of different artist too, which are from XIII to XV Centuries.
So, what are you waiting for? A little tour is perfect to discover the beauties of our Province!
